Where to celebrate sugar shack season downtown?

Buffet du temps des sucres au Marché Artisans avec plats salés et desserts à l’érable servis sur la table.

March means sugar shack season in Quebec. Maple syrup is everywhere and menus start taking on cabane à sucre flavours. The good news? You don’t have to leave Montréal to enjoy it. Restaurants, cafés and markets across downtown are celebrating the season with maple-inspired dishes and sweet treats.

Here are a few of our favourite downtown spots celebrating maple season.

Sugar shack brunch at Marché Artisans

Marché Artisans at the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth turns its brunch into a true urban sugar shack with its “Sucres en ville” experience. Every weekend from February 28 to April 19, maple takes centre stage in a variety of comforting Quebec classics.

The buffet is filled with traditional sugar shack flavours, including pea soup, maplewood-smoked bacon, braised ham, sausages glazed with maple syrup and pancakes with maple butter. Those with a sweet tooth will also find classics like pouding chômeur, maple brioche and the traditional maple taffy on snow.

Served from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the brunch is offered at $41. Children receive a 50% discount and no reservation is required.

Sugar shack season at Les Enfants Terribles

Starting March 14, Les Enfants Terribles invites Montrealers to “se sucrer le bec” – Québec’s playful way of saying “treat yourself to something sweet”, with a brunch inspired by classic sugar shack traditions. Created by Chef Christian Uhoda, the menu puts maple front and centre in several comforting dishes.

Guests can enjoy classics like grands-pères in maple syrup, a hearty lumberjack-style plate and hay-braised ham.

New this year, a take-home sugar shack basket will also be available for those who want to continue the experience at home.

Cochon Dingue is celebrating sugar shack season with its own delicious take: “La Cabane Dingue.” The menu features several sweet treats inspired by classic sugar shack flavours.

Waffles, brioche-style breads and traditional sugar pies are among the indulgences to discover, all served with maple syrup or maple cream for an unmistakably Quebec touch. A simple and tasty way to enjoy sugar shack flavours right in the city.
