April is when downtown Montreal really shakes off winter. The streets start to feel alive again, spontaneous detours become tempting, and there are suddenly plenty of reasons to stop and explore the city.

As always, new spots continue to pop up around the neighbourhood. This April brings a next-generation urban spa, a smash burger counter worth the indulgence, a build-your-own Asian bowl concept, the highly anticipated return of an iconic pub, and a pop-up floral store at Holt Renfrew.

JOY Wellness Social Club – a social wellness space in the heart of downtown

JOY Wellness Social Club introduces a fresh take on the urban spa, designed to fit seamlessly into the rhythm of city life. The space blends wellness, movement and recovery in an environment created for short but frequent visits. Guests will find saunas, ice baths, a thermal bath and red light therapy sessions. HIIT workouts and guided classes are also part of the experience.

Founded by the three Joyal sisters, including the founder of Strøm Spa, JOY positions itself as a place where people come not only to relax, but also to connect, recharge and take care of themselves.

La Maison du Burger Double Stack – from Joliette to downtown

After finding success in Joliette, La Maison du Burger Double Stack is opening a second location, this time in the heart of downtown on Bishop Street, just steps from Concordia University. The restaurant specializes in smash burgers, made with well-seared patties, melted cheese and perfectly toasted buns. The menu also features rice bowls and a variety of toppings such as caramelized onions, grilled mushrooms and house-made sauces. The concept is simple: fresh ingredients, generous portions and affordable prices.

Skybird Asian Grill – build your own Asian bowl

Skybird introduces a customizable Asian grill concept where guests can build their own bowl exactly the way they like it. The Sky Bowls combine fresh ingredients, oven-grilled proteins, colourful toppings and signature sauces. The menu also features bánh mì sandwiches served in a crispy baguette and filled with fresh vegetables, herbs and grilled meats. To go with the meal, several iced drinks are available, including Vietnamese iced coffee and matcha latte. House-made cookies round out the experience with a sweet finish.

Peel Pub – a Montreal institution returns

The iconic Peel Pub is making its return to downtown after several months of closure. Located on Peel Street for decades, this well-known sports bar is reopening under new ownership, with plans to preserve its original spirit while updating certain elements. The laid-back, sports-driven atmosphere remains at the core of the experience, with live games on screen and a menu featuring pub classics like wings, burgers and pizzas. The bar also offers 24 beers on tap, including several local selections.
