Year Long Greening: An Ambitious Project for Montréal centre-ville

Verdissement Avenue des Canadiens de Montréal, été 2024

The primary mandate of the Business Development Corporation (SDC) Montréal centre-ville is to stimulate economic development in the area and promote the improvement of the living environment

That’s why we’re committed to an ambitious greening project. It aims to transform the main commercial arteries of downtown into greener, more welcoming, and environmentally friendly environments, 365 days a year.

Summer greening

Since 2019, Montréal centre-ville has significantly increased its investments in summer greening. There are now over 20% more summer planters installed across the area.

1,084

ground-level planters have created green spaces that invite contemplation and relaxation.

65

semi-mature trees have facilitated the creation of long-term green spaces, improving air quality, reducing heat islands, and enhancing the visual attractiveness of downtown.

11

km of streets were greened during the peak season, illustrating the scope and impact of the greening project.

Year-round greening

Greening efforts in downtown Montreal take place year-round: the SDC Montréal centre-ville continues to maintain its initiatives throughout the seasons.

planters installed across the area during the spring season herald the arrival of the warmer months.

autumn flower planters brighten up downtown during the fall foliage season.

Christmas trees create a winter atmosphere on Sainte-Catherine Street.
