A journey into contemporary Inuit Art

From October 4, 2024, to March 9, 2025, the McCord Stewart Museum presents Manasie Akpaliapik: Inuit Universe, an exhibition dedicated to this contemporary artist from Ikpiarjuk (Arctic Bay). Created in collaboration with the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the exhibition also features unique sculptures from the late Raymond Brousseau’s Inuit art collection. Using whale bone, caribou antler, and stone, Manasie Akpaliapik explores legends, cultural values, and the supernatural world, while paying tribute to Arctic wildlife and landscapes.

Where tradition meets creation

Manasie Akpaliapik is known for his deep respect for Inuit oral traditions, which he conveys through his sculptural works. His creations draw inspiration from ancestral stories, the relationship between humans and animals, and elements of daily life. This artistic journey celebrates the harmony between humans and nature, offering visitors an authentic perspective on the Inuit world.
