Fall concert of the Orchestre Métropolitain
1 November, 19:30 - 22:00

For its fall concert, the Orchestre Métropolitain invites the public to an evening where music flirts with the strange and the wondrous. On Saturday, November 1st at the Maison symphonique de Montréal, conductor Naomi Woo will lead a fascinating program entitled Symphonic Spells, featuring scores where the sublime and the sinister intertwine.
A haunting night
Violins whisper like the wind on a stormy night, the brass section pierces through the orchestra like flashes of lightning, and cellos and basses tremble, spreading unease… In just a few bars, certain pieces conjure an atmosphere perfectly suited to a time of year when terror and death are embraced rather than feared. Under the baton of Naomi Woo, Liszt’s diabolical Mephisto Waltz, Mussorgsky’s haunting Night on Bald Mountain, Verdi’s enchanting Witches’ Dance from Macbeth and Augusta Holmès’s epic Andromeda bring timeless stories and legends to life.
