Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia at the MAC

Formed in Moscow in 2011, the Pussy Riot group produces performances, music and videos characterized by provocative, politically charged lyrics and actions. Guided by the idea that all protest art should be “desperate, sudden and joyful”, the members of Pussy Riot have highlighted the brutal injustices that the Russian state imposes on its citizens through its frequent political imprisonment, corruption and other suppression of critical voices.
