Where to eat on a terrace downtown?

With the return of summer, it’s impossible to resist the call of the terraces! There’s nothing like a good meal in a cool oasis to get your mind off things and take a welcome break. And downtown Montreal has no shortage of pleasant places to soak up the sun’s rays while enjoying a fresh, summery meal; sometimes all you have to do is turn a corner to enjoy a little peace and quiet and sit away from the crowds. Here’s our selection of the best places to eat downtown!

Mandy’s Crescent

On Crescent Street, the charming terrace of Mandy’s awaits you to make the most of a beautiful summer’s day. In a neat and charming setting, you can enjoy the gourmet bowls of this delicious franchise. On the menu, you’ll find mouth-watering salads that won’t leave you hungry for more. You can also create your own salad, using fresh and sometimes deliciously original ingredients (ramen, plantain chips, shish taouk tofu…) that offer endless possibilities. For a delicate meal, between the caress of a sunbeam and the softness of a summer breeze.

This excellent Portuguese restaurant, a sure bet in the neighborhood, offers nothing less than a special summer formula: l’Apéro en Terrasse, Monday to Friday, 2:30 to 5:30 pm. A special menu is offered for the occasion, with summer treats to share. Traditional codfish accras, pata negra and seafood are sure to set the mood for your evening!

To prolong the party, every Tuesday from 5pm, Terça Feira takes place in the same place: to the rhythms of a DJ, culinary creations and special cocktails are offered on the terrace. After all, Peel Street has nothing to envy Portugal!

Le Pois Penché

Le Pois Penché – the benchmark for French bistros – needs no introduction. But have you ever had the pleasure of trying out the restaurant’s new terrace? A charming installation now runs the length of the establishment; under parasols, bistro tables invite you to sit back and enjoy delicious summer moments. It’s the perfect opportunity to sample typical French dishes such as bouillabaisse or confit de canard. The area is also renowned for its seafood, so this summer, if you’re not going to the ocean, no problem – the ocean will come to you!

Sansotei Ramen is a ramen restaurant specializing in tonkotsu – a traditional soup-meal in a creamy broth made with pork. There are few dishes on the menu: a selection of ramen, plus some typical Japanese starters (gyozas, fried chicken…). Simple but wonderfully executed classics, and above all, terribly comforting. For summer, the rue Sainte-Catherine restaurant boasts a pretty little terrace in front of its facade; like the establishment itself, it’s sober but welcoming, elegant in black tones with a touch of wood. A great way to stay in the mood while enjoying the charms of summer!

In short, the ideal setting for savoring fine Italian cuisine! Delicately flavored pasta rubs shoulders with meats and fish prepared in mild Mediterranean sauces – all to be enjoyed, of course, with a glass of fine Italian wine.
